Biden admin will continue to challenge Remain in Mexico.
After an adverse ruling from a federal court, the Biden administration has said that it will continue working to end the Remain in Mexico program. The administration said that DHS has appealed the district court’s August 13 decision, but will nevertheless comply with the policy “in good faith” throughout the appeal. Approximately 70,000 migrants were subjected to the program, which required migrants seeking asylum to wait in Mexico until their cases could be heard in the U.S. #immigration

Beginning August 12, USCIS is temporarily extending the validity period for Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, from two years to now four years due to COVID-19-related delays in processing. USCIS may consider a completed Form I-693 as valid if the civil surgeon’s signature is dated no more than 60 days before the applicant filed Form I-485; no more than four years have passed since the date of the civil surgeon’s signature, and a decision on the applicant’s Form I-485 is issued on or before Sept. 30, 2021.

U.S. Immigration Law catching up with reproductive science
USCIS announced updated policy guidance affecting children born outside of the United States and the determination of whether children born through assisted reproductive technology (ART) are considered to have been born “in wedlock.” This policy update will allow a non-genetic, non-gestational legal parent of a child to transmit U.S. citizenship to the child if the parent is married to the child’s genetic or gestational parent at the time of the child’s birth, and the relevant jurisdiction recognizes both parents as the child’s legal parents.
