Federal judge says Biden cannot yet end ‘Remain in Mexico.’ A federal judge in Texas has put on hold the Biden administration’s attempt to end the “Remain in Mexico” policy. U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk has decided to pause the end of the program which is going to setback Biden’s effort to no longer enforce the Trump-era program which currently sends migrants back to Mexico instead of detaining them or releasing them into the United States.
On Dec. 23, 2022, the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Public Charge Ground of Inadmissibility final rule will go into effect. When making a public charge inadmissibility determination under this final rule, DHS will not consider receipt of noncash benefits (for example, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, public housing, school lunch programs, etc.) other than long-term institutionalization at government expense.
